World Sight Day

Canadian Vision Care's Contribution to World Sight Day: A Partnership for Change in Africa:

This year's World Sight Day, themed Children Love Your Sight, was a powerful reminder for parents around the world to prioritize their children's eye health. The Canadian Vision Care Organization (CVC) recognizes that not all parents have access to affordable eye care, particularly in low-income regions. In response, CVC, through its Eye See to Learn project, has partnered with 10 African universities and one optometry association to make a tangible difference. Led by Dr. Ogbonna Grace, this initiative screened 14,722 schoolchildren across Africa during the world sight day, bringing the total number of people screened by this project this year to 40,243 and providing life-changing interventions, including glasses for more than 2,500 children in need.

The Eye See to Learn project aligns with the World Council of Optometry’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about preventable blindness, including those caused by refractive errors like myopia. By working in partnership with local institutions, CVC is helping children in underprivileged areas access essential eye care, ensuring they can continue their education without the barriers of unaddressed vision problems. The collaborative work between CVC and its partners is a testament to the impact of collective action in promoting eye health and preventing avoidable vision loss worldwide.
